Dog show at Tiendesitas
Posted by Lauren | Under Random Thoughts with 2,167 views Sunday Jan 21, 2007Cats have always been my favorite animals in the whole world. I’ve never been much of a dog lover in the sense that I’d want to own one and take care and be responsible for it. Lately, however, my sister and I have been checking out dog breeds because my parents want to get a tough-looking dog to keep thieves away when we move houses. We finally decided on getting a Boxer pup sometime late February. It’s not the cutest dog in the world, really but I don’t know…the idea of getting a Boxer just grew onto me and now I can’t wait til we take him home. :D
Today my parents, sister, and I checked out a dog show at Tiendesitas. Marielle and I went nuts; we were squeeing all over the place and taking all these pictures because the dogs were so goddamn cute! I want a Husky so bad but they instinctively attack anything that’s smaller than them, which means they’ll definitely maul our cats. :( A Samoyed would be awesome as well; I had a really hard time leaving the cage because it kept looking at me with those beady, soulful eyes. It looks nowhere near like a guard dog though and my dad doesn’t like long-haired dogs, so it’s out of the question. :P

A slightly annoying thing happened during the dog show though. My sister and I stumbled upon the cage of the Akita first, and as we reached out to pet it, its (Filipino) owner pretty much snarled at us and said we couldn’t touch the dog. Later we swung by the Akita’s cage again and guess what we saw? A Caucasian woman petting the dog while its owner looked with approval. I wanted to kick the guy in the nuts. Racist against your own people much?
I have more pictures of the dog show at my Multiply account, as well as pictures of some items from the Tiendesitas Antique Village. It’s funny, I’ve never been big on (normal) jewelry but I spend so much time drooling over antique ones when I get the chance. I think I’ll buy myself a really ornate ring or pendant one of these days.
EDIT: Pictures from the band photoshoot (see the teaser) are up here. :D
I had a Samoyed before, a lovely dog. Really difficult to walk him though because he’s really strong, being a working sled-dog kind of breed. But because he wasn’t raised with cats he mauled a few stray cats that crossed his path. :( American eskies (one that lives in my house now) are a lot friendlier and playful, but I don’t think they’re the guard dog type, heh.
:x I didn’t know that pitbull/bulldog breeds are banned in the UK until recently because of their aggressiveness. At least you’ll know that you have a proper guard dog, hehe.
I read up that Boxers aren’t exactly guard dogs, though they can be trained to be one. They do look really fierce though! Awww, I’d love to have a Samoyed someday.
I have a well-trained labrador (a black one) and they are the most obedient of all types of dogs. They look menacing too because of their size but they won’t harm anyone. I must admit they are not attack dogs but with proper training they can be taught how to jump on and bring down an adversary.
Normally you should ask before petting a dog, because you never know their temperament, but I have no idea why the women would be mad at a pretty lady like you ;-)
I have a Jack Russell Terrier (5 years old) and an Akita/Husky mix (6 months old). The JRT is very friendly, but a tough lil’ girl. She is extremely loyal, always standing at the window and watching out for me when I am outside. Just tonight she stayed at the window waiting for me for 3 hours while I was gone. My Akita/Husky is really learning from my JRT, and they have become best buddies ever since the Jack Russell stood up for her against two huge dogs (when the puppy was 8 weeks old). The Akita/Husky is just as protective of the JRT, and my family. She is nice to affable people at the park, but on property she tries to attack strange dogs, and HATES strangers. This is ALL at only 6 months of age.
I live near Washington, D.C. so a little different from the Philippines, I am not sure my Akita/Husky would like the environment. She needs to drink a ton of water just in the Summer over here. I can’t wait until Winter, if I get some snow I am going to get her trained to pull a sled.
If you would like to see some pics of the two dogs I can send you some.
I agree huskies and samoyeds are beautiful.. I have 2 siberian huskies and 1 samoyed.. they are definately not guard dogs though..t hey love everyone.. the sammie at least barks though, the huskies.. not so much… and about the huskies mauling cats.. I have 2 cats as well.. and they are just fine with them… but if a rabbit, squirrel or fast pace leaf cross their path.. watch out!
We have an Akita at home and anybody can touch or pat him as long as the owner is beside him. But if the Akita is inside his territory and you are not a family member, better watch out. Akita’s are great family dogs, excellent guard dogs (not the noisy type, they simply attack). We had dogs since I was little girl and so far, I can say that the Akita is the best of all the dogs we had.
A Pet is like a rainbow between a mans good side and his heart I guess!
