My first body piercing
Posted by Lauren | Under Tattoos and Piercings with 3,014 views Wednesday Aug 16, 2006EDIT: According to the BME Zine LJ community, my piercing is going to reject. Instead of getting my flesh pierced by a needle, this is the way my piercing should have been done.
I’m leaving it on for a few days and see what happens. But if I does reject, I’m going over to my piercer and demand a free piercing or something. Stupid me forgot to get a receipt though. Stupid, stupid.
Since my life seemed to take a turn for the crazy over the past few days, I decided to bring the change to the realm of the physical by doing something batshit insane.
I got my stomach surface pierced.
A few weeks ago, I would have never considered the idea. I’m about as straight-laced and boring as it can get. I don’t do “hardcore” shit that make people go, “Whooaaa, cool!” It’s just…not me. Besides, why should I pay somebody one thousand pesos to poke a hole into my flesh when the sight of blood and the sensation of pain makes me nauseous in the first place?
But the more I thought about it, the more I thought that getting an unusual piercing is the best way to mark the changes in my life. It’s something I’ve never done before, simply because I’m afraid of needles and pain. I suppose I wanted to be able to face that fear. Besides, I think navel piercings are for sluts, nose/lebret piercings would make me look like a poser, and ear cartiledge is boring. What I love about the stomach surface piercings is that when you get the right jewelry, the studs look like they just come out of nowhere (see here). They’re the most gorgeous piercings I’ve ever seen and I can’t wait to get my surface bars.
So today, I went over to the tattoo place at Robinson’s Galleria with Pat. I was hoping to have him take pictures of the procedure–not so I could blog them, but so that I can have proof in case the piercer fucks up. But because I stupidly forgot to charge my sister’s camera last night, I have no pictures of me getting pierced. Not that I particularly mind. The moment the needle punctured my skin, I went into shock.
Getting pierced is just as painful as getting a blood sample taken, but that wasn’t what made my knees buckle. I could feel the muscles/fats of my belly getting torn apart by the sharp end of the needle as it made its way from one pen mark to the other. For fuck’s sake, it’s a sharp object going through my flesh! How can I not freak out at that?
If I weren’t holding onto Pat during the procedure, I would have probably collapsed onto the floor. My head was spinning and I damn near threw up all over myself. I couldn’t move my legs, my arms, or my fingers, and that made me freak out even more. Pat lifted me onto the bed while my piercer rushed out to get some ammonia. As I lay completely immobile, Pat calmly informed me that I was in shock–which caused me to break out in a mad laughing fit for some reason.
It’s all good now. I love the way my piercing looks! It’s as if it’s always been there. I’m surprised that it isn’t hurting as much as I expected it to, but maybe it’s because I gulped down some Alaxan before the procedure. I read in some websites that moving around can be a bitch but I have no problem with that either. My only real concern is that my body might reject the piercing. I did not use up my week’s allowance just to get a failed piercing.
So yay, on with the pictures.

It’s not that obvious from afar because of the surgical steel thing that has to stay in place for two weeks.
(Forgive the messy dorm room :p)

A closer look at my piercing.
(Why does my tummy always look bigger in pictures?)

An even closer look.
I’m trying to decide whether I like it on you or not.. It doesn’t look bad, but it looks…. I dunno… Lonely. My first thought was, “WOW! They missed her belly button…. by like a LOT!” I wonder if adding a belly button piercing would make it not look like that… It’s definately unique though!
i haven’t seen a peircing like it before, it’s unique! i quite like it
had my navel pierced back in 1998 (yup, am an old gal now) at robinson’s galleria. Interestingly, mine is vertical and not horizontal.
you know what is bad with navel piercing? when you get pregnant and get linea negra. it’s gross! hahaha
last summer i got a cartilage piercing on my right ear. i had to take it off because it became infected, all, of course, because of my irresponsibility. i still have the pock mark to prove it. anyway, i was looking at archived journal entries, and managed to find this space. i like it!
If you ever see me on, IM me and catch me up on your life. I’d love to know what dramatic changes in your life led to a stomach piercing.
Your tummy does not look big. Your piercing looks good!
looks scary. piercing looks great, but…
it looks like its lacking depth.
ah you went to gene too huh? dang girl you’re brave! ouch! i just had my navel done.. and i guess that’s as far as i can go…
and a tattoo i guess.. hehehe.. but not here.. it’s cheaper to have it done there. haha!
my dad was totally against body jewely, but a year after i got my belly pierced he got over it and even found a site called affordablebellyrings.com that he told me to check out.now he even buys me them for gifts.
yeah, your piercing looking good…
nice….you should get a tattoo by it, it looks lonely…
it seems like it should be deeper but it looks good. i have my navel pierced and i’m thinking about getting one like yours below it.. very cool…
That piercing looks very bad… I am a body piercer, and I don’t know of any surface piercing done with a bar that small of gauge or that style… at least not one that would ever heal. Please take my advice and don’t go back to that piercer. He had not concern for your well being if he would pierce you with that thing.
It doesn’t look like they went deep enough you can see the metal of the bar through your skin. Though I am all about the pain of physical change heck I have done several piercings so yea it looks all right
I have a total of 18 piercings, one of which is a surface piercing in the nape of my neck.
Ive had it done for about a year now, which I’m very proud of considering surface piercings arent known to last long.
Though I know I’m comparing 2 completely different parts of the body, there is no way that your piercing was done correctly and therefore it will not last long.
Not only is the gage way too small, your piercer didnt even use a proper surface bar. It is not supposed to be straight…it is supposed to resemble the shape of a staple so that it can rest deep enough under the skin while it can still show the beads on the surface.
nice piercing.
nice blog and i concur with Stacy
Your tummy does not look big
cheers
don’t listen to him, He’s a PERVERT.
Doesnt it have a bar with the steel ball parts either end?? i agree with other people who have commented that it doesnt look very deep, or wide. Is it off center too? looks a little too far to the right. If it does reject i dont think you should go back to the piercer and demand a free piercing, looks like a crappy job to me, stay away
yes that looks really bad, not to mention it is done completely wrong. As stated before, surface bars that look like staples should be used in cases like this. Take it out, after you clean it before it rejects.
This piercing is awful. The piercing is too shallow and your body will most likely push it out because it thinks that it is a splinter. TAKE IT OUT! Or you will be scarred for life!
Im all about piercings i love them with a passion. Its good that u decided to try to face ur fear and get one done on top of that a piercing that not to many people have. But i am sorry i do have to agree that it does not look right. It was pierced way to close to the surface of the skin and the bar is way to small u need bigger gauge barbell for it more like a 14 , u will be lucky if u dont have issues. I personally would take it out wait for it to heal and go to someone else and have it redone i know that sounds like a pain, trust me u will be much happier.
thats a really shallow surface piercing, its going to reject pretty bad
i just got my back done for a corset piercing which was six staple bars and the go in at least half a cm deep because otherwise infection and all sorts of bad stuff can happen, its just i can practicly see the silver bar through your skin which is pretty insane
i think that looks like it going to rip out of your skin i got my beely done and im skiny and he sed it might reject and showed me a pic of sum 1s hu did reject and it look the same as urs i would take that out soryy
i love piercings but this one does not look good at all. its great that you wanted to mark changes in your life, and i have done the same but honestly i thin that this is too shallow, not straight and will probably regect and trust me you do not want a rejected piercing it husts and leaves a horrible scar.
and navel rings are not for sluts. it is just a piercing.
