The execution of all cats

Wednesday Aug 9, 2006

I found this on a friend’s Livejournal:

Due to the growing numbers of the cats in the Ateneo (and an accident involving a cat biting a student), there will be an extermination squad to execute ALL THE CATS IN THE ATENEO CAMPUS.

Execution date is on Friday, August 11, ‘06.

Method[s]: BB gun or drowning.

So please, pass this around or tell your friends about this. A cat is pretty easy to take care of. They are independent and all you have actually do is to provide them water, food and love.

I’m not sure if this is true, and I wouldn’t put it past Ateneo to do that. All the cats in school are going to die because some stupid conyo brat didn’t know any better than to pick on a cat? Besides, if what they’re really after is the control of the cat population, then the admin should just spend money to get them neutered instead of paying for an exterminator.

Stewards of God’s creation, my ass.

I have 2 cats and if I could, i’d save all the stray kitties in the world. The sad reality is that strays multiply way too fast for animal shelters to find owners and they just cant afford to feed them. In the U.S. most of these strays end up in kill shelters where they are killed if not adopted within 72 hours or so. But i believe this is done with lethal injection so death comes with less suffering (i think). But for Ateneo to drown cats?? That’s just mercilessly cruel.

there is an Animal Welfare act and under section 6, method of killing should be humane, even assuming the extermination is valid

THE ANIMAL WELFARE ACT OF 1998

http://www.internationalwildlifelaw.org/phil_animal_act.html

In all the above mentioned cases, including those of cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, poultry, rabbits, carabaos, horses, deer and crocodiles the killing of the animals shall be done through humane procedures at all times.

For this purpose, humane procedures shall mean the use of the most scientific methods available as may be determined and approved by the Committee.

That’s terribly disturbing. I’m an advocate of animal rights and it sadens me that other people do not seem to pity animals such as stray cats. I read that it was supposed to take place last Aug. 11, 2006. I certainly hope that such an ‘execution’ did not take place.

I don’t think that message is true. Ateneo admin wont do a mean thing like that. Maybe the person who started the message is trying to be funny.
pretty neat blog.
