It’s BoraCAY, you idiots. Get it right.
Posted by Lauren | Under Travel with 243 views Tuesday May 30, 2006One of my biggest pet peeves is the use of the proper noun “Bora”. Every time I hear somebody utter “Bora” I need to repress the urge to wring that person’s neck with my bare hands. Okay, so I’m exaggerating a little. But the word “Bora” really, really, really irritates me. I mean, WHY? Is it really too much trouble to say the third syllable? Or is “Bora” some sort of hip conyo slang that I don’t seem to be getting?
In any case, nothing gets my blood boiling more than the incessant use of the word “Bora”. For fuck’s sake people, get it right!
BORACAY
BORACAY
BORACAY
Not “Bora”.
Yes, I know it must sound lame to be excited to go to BoraCAY with one’s family. With parents around, you can’t flirt, fuck, and take drugs with all the conyo party boys and girls. It probably sounds even lamer to be excited about going to BoraCAY with one’s parents during the off-season. In the month of June, there won’t be any conyo party boys and girls to flirt, fuck, and take drugs with.
But unlike most women people out there, I don’t use the beach as an excuse to dress down to my underwear, hook up with random potheads, and wave glowsticks around like a retarded 3-year old. I actually go there to swim, breathe in the saltwater, watch the sunset, and generally escape from the chaos that is Metro Manila to enjoy the peaceful and tranquil environment of the seaside. I hate parties, I don’t associate myself with people who do drugs, and I have a near-fatal allergic reaction to conyos. I swore that I would never set foot on BoraCAY as long as it remains the conyo capital of this country. But screw that. I haven’t been out of the city the entire summer and I’m really looking forward to going somewhere new.
So there.
my pet peeve from a few years back was “arrneo”
but i guess this is probably not the most appropriate venue to be dissing that particular colloquialism.
I don’t think you have to worry about the conyo guys at BoraCAY in the summer. Sa dami ng “promo” and flights to BoraCAY, ang dami na ring jologs. Ang jologs nang pumunta dun during summers. It looked like Puerto Galera when I got there last summer.
If you, like me, would like to go there for the beach, better to go early in the summer or some other time. Midsummer is really crazy and crowded.
It’s a nice beach
Dont forget your camara.
i feel the same way also, it irritates me whenever people use shortcut to pronounce a word. like for example, conASS, telcos, cha-cha, etc. i can name some more but it’s damn annoying already. :)maybe they are just lazy bastards.
i also hate those who pronounce boracay with fake accent. you know, those people who pronounce it so that it almost rhymes with malacchi.
and yeah, i also hate it when people insist on putting “the” before saying ateneo/arneow. i think “the” should only be used for important things. wehehehe
I was in Boracay the sme days you were there
I have to agree, Boracay should be the name and not Bora. Although I use Bora all the time now, you know, friends call it Bora lang.
Hi, i’m a regular reader of your mom’s blogs. i have a 1 year old daughte and i feat that the society she will grow up with would be one where boracay is “bora”, where aircon is “a/c”, nobody can finish a sentence without using the words “like”, “as in”, but these are petty fears compared to the one I have that by the time she grows up, it would be considered so silly for a daughter to actually like spending time with her parents. You make me hope that that wouldn’t be entirely true…
I’d love to chill out at Boracay one day. And the beach is just so nice!
(:
What does conyo mean? is that a slang word?
Bora is a conyo slang, I believe.
I kinda got infected with their calling Boracay as Bora. *bleh* I wouldn’t want to be seen there nor Galera with all the conyos. -_- Go to where they are and you might end up being called one. Tsk, tsk.
I totally agree about the “Bora” label. Hate it, and everything it stands for!
Boracay locals and residents can’t stand the “Bora” label too - and the crowd it represents, who no longer come here for the sand, sea and scenery, but to head to the nearest mall. Sad bastards, throwing their trash everywhere and making a garbage dump of our once beautiful island.
Good months to come are from October - December (with the exception of christmas) when the weather is good but the party crowds have not yet arrived.
