Updating from my room with SMART WiFi–finally!
Posted by lauren | Under Intarnets with 889 views Thursday Oct 27, 2005Wow. It’s been a while since I last wrote here. Let’s try to recap what I’ve been up to since my last entry. Not that I have a lot to say about that since my days have been spent either watching random movies with Pat, playing KoL, and playing Diablo II.
Yesterday I arrived from a two/three-day vacation in Laguna with my friends from school (also known as the TABLE people). We stayed at Monte Azure (which is a resort that Liss‘ dad owns) where I spent my days alternately swimming, eating, and playing Dungeons and Dragonses (Pam [info]izkariote is a great DM). Over lunch yesterday, my sister and I were swapping vacation stories since she had gone to Laguna the weekend before my trip for a planning seminar with some forty members from her org, the UP Junior Marketing Association.
Me: Incidentally, where’d you guys stay at?
Marielle: Monte Azure.
Me: *raises eyebrow* No shit. I stayed at Monte Azure too!
Marielle: The one in Miramonte?
Me: Yeah!
Me and Marielle: Holy fuck!
Apparantly, she and her orgmates left the place (completely trashed) two hours before we got there. Talk about a really trippy coincidence (no pun intended).
Now would be the part of the entry where I share my pictures from the trip, but there aren’t any because I’m lame for destroying my camera for good when I accidentally dropped it in saltwater in San Francisco. Nobody else brought a digicam and the only camera that was there was Ponci’s ancient film-type one.
When I got to my room yesterday, I was greeted by a bunch of computer technicians trying to hook up SMART WiFi or wireless Internet to my PC. For some reason, my PC kept rejecting the connection and refused to connect to the Internet at all. Three hours later, the computer guys gave up on working on the problem and told me to defrag the PC in the hopes that that may solve the problem. Fearing my SMART WiFi (and any sort of broadband internet connection) gone from my PC for good, I decided to take a nap. Somewhere in between dreaming about otherworldly sea monsters, I woke up to my mother tinkering with my PC and telling me that she was able to fix the problem. O_o That was one of those instances where I felt glad to have a mother that knew more about computers than me and a group of computer technicians.
Of course, the first thing I did is get bittorrent to download TV shows and movies. Much to my disappointment, I learned that downloading movies over the ‘net isn’t as easy and quick as downloading mp3s. I’m probably much better off using Limewire to download South Park and Futurama episodes and buying pirated DVDs to watch movies. Or, I dunno, maybe I’m just not going to the right torrent sites. (I’d appreciate it a lot if anybody can recommend me good, fast torrent websites.)
hi, just a passerby
but yeah i used to use bittorent and unfortunately it was quite slow for large files, such as those of movies and shows. But if you really want to take the time to read about clubbox.co.kr, it’s faster. It’s in korean but there are instructions on the internet on how to sign up, and http://com5.runboard.com/bclubbox.fcblinks has some clubbox links, some of which include a large variety of western films =) idk i use it and it’s fun hah
Hi! I’m just bloghopping and I want to share something to help you with your Bittorrent predicament.
Torrent search sites you might want to visit.
http://thepiratebay.org/
http://www.torrentspy.com/
Software:
Opera (web browser) 8.02
http://snapshot.opera.com/windows/
(make sure you get the BitTorrent Technology Preview if you want to get the version with Bittorrent support)
the more popular ones are mininova.org, thepiratebay.org, and torrenttyphoon.com
what client do you use? there’s one modified off azureus (the most widely-used client so far) that lets you search for the torrents on the client itself. localhost (http://p2p.cs.mu.oz.au/software/Localhost/) hope this helps!
Good torrent sites: thepiratebay.org, tvtorrents.com, mininova.org, and demonoid.com
Hi, it’s Alli.
tvtorrents.com is good for tv shows, and yes it takes a very long time–but from what I’ve determined it’s faster than limewire for downloading shows when you *have* to watch the first season of Grey’s Anatomy and it’s not on DVD yet.
Really? From my experience, the download speed of Limewire is a lot faster than through torrents. But then again, it could be that I usually just download individual episodes instead of one whole season.
µTorrent
BearShare
Try PirateBay.org :)
you can download individual episodes with torrents too — i use bitcomet and you download the season’s torrent and then check the episodes you want to download :) it’s much faster that way because then i download 4 episodes and while watching them, i’m downloading another 4. it takes me about 2+ days to download, if i download one episode, it takes me a couple of hours.
Well, I think bittorrent(I use a modified bittornado) is a lot faster than Limewire when it comes to downloading(based on experience) and has less hassles too when it comes to port security. It just all comes down to these factors though:
1. How many seeders there are.
2. How many seeders are not firewalled.
3. How many seeders are near in your location and has a high speed.
4. How your firewall is configured.
5. How high your ratio is.
6. How fast your actual connection to the internet is.
Even with a single seeder as long as that seeder has a decent dsl connection, I usually have an average dl speed of 20kbps at 0 ratio. I just love to download anime/manga/new movies/albums through bittorrent. I usually use isohunt.com, boxtorrents.com, demonoid.com – it still depends on what you think though, about which of the two is faster.
